Inalla, Archmage Ritualist costs {2}{U}{B}{R} and is a 4/5 Legendary Human Wizard. Its eminence lets you pay {1} whenever another nontoken Wizard you control enters, to create a hasty token copy of that Wizard that is exiled at the beginning of the next end step, and you can tap five untapped Wizards you control to make a target player lose 7 life. A Wizard with an enter-the-battlefield effect is worth two.
The precon already has the Wizards that draw and reanimate, including Bloodline Necromancer, Archaeomancer, Azami, Lady of Scrolls, Apprentice Necromancer and Sea Gate Oracle. Each swap below pairs a cut with an add, and every card is scored with the same numbers the Oracle uses to build decks: synergy and inclusion from the Inalla decks, plus lift, which shows how much more often a card turns up in Inalla decks than in decks that could play it.

What is holding the deck back
Not enough Wizards with enter-the-battlefield effects
Aether Channeler, Naban, Dean of Iteration, Stonybrook Banneret, Kuja, Genome Sorcerer, Mysidian Elder and Venser, Shaper Savant are all Wizards, and most of them do something when they enter. They are among the top-scoring cards the precon leaves out.
Rocks and spells outside the lists
Darksteel Ingot, Mirror of the Forebears, Nevinyrral's Disk, Unstable Obelisk, Worn Powerstone, Cauldron Dance, Comet Storm, Into the Roil, Memory Plunder, Opportunity and Polymorphist's Jest are not cards Inalla decks usually play.
Few cards that make the Wizards count
Naru Meha, Master Wizard gives the other Wizards +1/+1 and Stonybrook Banneret makes Wizard spells cheaper, which helps the deck reach Inalla's five untapped Wizards.

Ertai Resurrected is a 3/2 Legendary Phyrexian Human Wizard for {2}{U}{B} with flash. When it enters you choose up to one: counter target spell, activated ability or triggered ability, or destroy another target creature or planeswalker, and its controller draws a card either way. A four-drop Wizard with flash that answers a spell or a threat.

If you want to spend more
These are strong but sit outside a budget upgrade. Prices are the cheapest paper printing.
- Dualcaster Mage$3.48
A three-mana Wizard with flash that copies an instant or sorcery. It costs more than a budget upgrade should. - Riptide Laboratory$0.63
A land that returns a Wizard to your hand for {1}{U}, so Inalla can copy its enter-the-battlefield effect again. Fair price, but it needs a lot of Wizards to pay off.
Arcane Wizardry already has the Wizards that draw, reanimate and reuse spells. The upgrade is cheap Wizards with enter-the-battlefield effects that Inalla can copy, in place of rocks and spells that Inalla decks leave out. These eleven swaps cost about $6 in total.

How the numbers work
Inclusion is the share of Inalla, Archmage Ritualist decks (14,833 of them when this was written, 2026-10-28) that play the card. Synergy is how much more often they play it than other decks in the same colours. Oracle score is synergy × 0.6 plus inclusion × 0.4, the same blend The Oracle uses to rank cards for a deck. Lift compares how often the card appears in these decks with how often it could, capped at 8× here; it is shown for context and does not change the score.
Two cautions. Players who run the precon unmodified count as Inalla decks, which flatters every card the precon contains. Lift is high for many Wizard cards because few decks play them outside a Wizards deck, so use lift to compare cards, not to judge one in isolation. A card the commander's decks do not usually play counts as 0 in the average score. Prices are the cheapest non-foil paper printing on TCGplayer (via Scryfall), in USD, and move daily.
