Lord Windgrace costs {2}{B}{R}{G} and is a Legendary Planeswalker that can be your commander. Its +2 discards a card, then draws a card, and an additional card if a land was discarded; its -3 returns up to two land cards from your graveyard to the battlefield; and its -11 destroys up to six target nonland permanents and creates six 2/2 Cat Warriors with forestwalk. The deck wants lands in the graveyard and ways to bring them back for landfall.
The precon already has the landfall creatures and the ramp, including Avenger of Zendikar, Harrow, Rampaging Baloths, Retreat to Hagra and Cultivate. Each swap below pairs a cut with an add, and every card is scored with the same numbers the Oracle uses to build decks: synergy and inclusion from the Windgrace decks, plus lift, which shows how much more often a card turns up in Windgrace decks than in decks that could play it.

What is holding the deck back
Not enough land recursion and landfall payoffs
The Gitrog Monster, Splendid Reclamation, Titania, Soul of Windgrace and Conduit of Worlds bring lands back, and Ob Nixilis, Omnath and Tireless Tracker reward every land. They are among the top-scoring cards the precon leaves out.
Cards outside the lists
Fury Storm, Moonlight Bargain, Hunting Wilds, Reality Scramble, Acidic Slime, Baloth Woodcrasher, Bloodtracker, Borderland Explorer, Centaur Vinecrasher, Charnelhoard Wurm, Crash of Rhino Beetles and Emissary of Grudges are not cards Windgrace decks usually play.
A very land-heavy deck
The deck has 43 lands, so it wants cards that make good use of lands rather than more ramp and big creatures.

If you want to spend more
These are strong but sit outside a budget upgrade. Prices are the cheapest paper printing.
- Lotus Cobra$5.99
A two-mana creature that adds a mana of any color on every land drop. It costs more than a budget upgrade should. - Life from the Loam$5.15
A two-mana sorcery that returns three lands from your graveyard and has dredge 3. It costs more than a budget upgrade should.
Nature's Vengeance already has the landfall creatures, the ramp and Lord Windgrace's land recursion. The upgrade is cheap landfall payoffs and cards that return lands from the graveyard, in place of creatures and spells that Windgrace decks leave out. These twelve swaps cost about $16 in total.

How the numbers work
Inclusion is the share of Lord Windgrace decks (10,122 of them when this was written, 2026-10-28) that play the card. Synergy is how much more often they play it than other decks in the same colours. Oracle score is synergy × 0.6 plus inclusion × 0.4, the same blend The Oracle uses to rank cards for a deck. Lift compares how often the card appears in these decks with how often it could, capped at 8× here; it is shown for context and does not change the score.
Two cautions. Players who run the precon unmodified count as Lord Windgrace decks, which flatters every card the precon contains. Lift is high for many land cards because few decks play them outside a lands deck, so use lift to compare cards, not to judge one in isolation. A card the commander's decks do not usually play counts as 0 in the average score. Prices are the cheapest non-foil paper printing on TCGplayer (via Scryfall), in USD, and move daily.
