Rootha, Mastering the Moment costs {2}{U}{R}. At the beginning of combat on your turn, if you have cast an instant or sorcery this turn, you create an X/X blue and red Elemental with flying and haste, where X is the greatest mana value among the instants and sorceries you cast. The bigger the spell, the bigger the Elemental.

The precon already has the cost reducers and the finishers, including Thunderclap Drake, Dirgur Focusmage and Surge to Victory. Each swap below pairs a cut with an add, and every card is scored with the same numbers the Oracle uses to build decks: synergy and inclusion from the Rootha decks, plus lift, which shows how much more often a card turns up in Rootha decks than in decks that could play it. The precon is already close to what players build, so this guide has six swaps.

What is holding the deck back

Not enough mana that only pays for spells

Resonating Lute makes your lands tap for two mana that can only cast instants and sorceries, and Abstract Paintmage adds {U}{R} for them every turn. They are two of the top-scoring cards the precon leaves out.

Cards that do little for the plan

Harmonic Prodigy doubles triggers of Shamans and Wizards, but Rootha is an Orc Sorcerer, so it does not double her. Throes of Chaos and Brazen Borrower are fine cards that are played in about one Rootha deck in five.

A heavy top end and slow lands

Ten nonland cards cost six or more, and Molten Tributary, Prismari Campus and Temple of Epiphany all enter tapped in a deck with 38 lands.

The verdict

Prismari Artistry is already close to what Rootha players build, so eight swaps are enough. They add mana that only pays for instants and sorceries, creatures that grow with each spell, and a spell that copies Rootha's Elementals. These eight swaps cost about $18 in total.

How the numbers work

Inclusion is the share of Rootha, Mastering the Moment decks (7,460 of them when this was written, 2026-10-27) that play the card. Synergy is how much more often they play it than other decks in the same colours. Oracle score is synergy × 0.6 plus inclusion × 0.4, the same blend The Oracle uses to rank cards for a deck. Lift compares how often the card appears in these decks with how often it could, capped at 8× here; it is shown for context and does not change the score.

Two cautions. Players who run the precon unmodified count as Rootha decks, which flatters every card the precon contains. Lift is high for many cards here because they are rarely played outside spellslinger decks, so use lift to compare cards, not to judge one in isolation. Prices are the cheapest non-foil paper printing on TCGplayer (via Scryfall), in USD, and move daily.
