Overview
Arm for Battle is a voltron deck with a lot of combat tricks. Wyleth, Soul of Steel has trample, and whenever it attacks you draw a card for each Aura and Equipment attached to it. Loading it up with Equipment and Auras makes it a big threat and a card engine.
The 99 cards are only 11 creatures, 16 artifacts, 6 enchantments, 22 instants, 4 sorceries and 40 lands. Most of the artifacts are Equipment, such as Bonesplitter, Fireshrieker, Hero's Blade and Loxodon Warhammer, and the Auras include Faith Unbroken, Spirit Mantle and On Serra's Wings. Creatures such as Danitha Capashen, Paragon, Sram, Senior Edificer, Relic Seeker and Ironclad Slayer make the equipment and Auras cheaper or give you more of them.
Key Cards
Playing the Deck
The early game is about cheap creatures and Equipment. Danitha Capashen, Paragon, Relic Seeker, Sram, Senior Edificer and Ironclad Slayer come down early, Sol Ring, Boros Signet and Brass Squire help with mana and Equipment, and Bonesplitter, Explorer's Scope, Ring of Valkas and Ring of Thune are cheap. Sigarda's Aid lets you cast Auras and Equipment with flash.
The middle of the game is about loading up Wyleth. Hero's Blade attaches itself to a legendary creature, Fireshrieker, Haunted Cloak, Sword of Vengeance and Loxodon Warhammer make the equipped creature a huge attacker, and Faith Unbroken exiles an opposing creature. Spirit Mantle, Unquestioned Authority and Timely Ward protect your creature, and Mask of Avacyn gives hexproof.
The late game is about extra combats and tricks. Relentless Assault and Response // Resurgence give an additional combat phase, Temur Battle Rage gives double strike, Comet Storm and Jaya's Immolating Inferno finish with damage, and Master Warcraft controls combat. Martial Coup and Winds of Rath reset the board when needed.
Strengths & Weaknesses
Strengths: The deck has a very high density of combat tricks and protection, so it can often win combat and keep its creature alive. It also has plenty of removal and interaction, including Swords to Plowshares, Generous Gift, Abrade, Condemn and Valorous Stance.
Weaknesses: With only 11 creatures, the deck puts almost all its power on one creature, so removal on Wyleth can cost you several cards, and a sweeper hurts. Some of its Equipment is costly to move between creatures.
