Overview
Rebellion Rising is a go-wide deck that makes tokens in every way it can and then sends them in. Neyali, Suns' Vanguard gives attacking tokens you control double strike, and whenever one or more tokens you control attack a player she exiles the top card of your library, which you may play during any turn you attacked with a token. Attacks therefore both deal damage and refill your hand.
The 99 cards are 16 creatures, 1 planeswalker, 18 artifacts, 5 enchantments, 8 instants, 13 sorceries and 38 lands. Only 16 of them are creatures, because most of the deck is made of token makers such as Assemble the Legion, Hordeling Outburst and Finale of Glory, and of equipment, including the "For Mirrodin!" cards Hexplate Wallbreaker, Kemba's Banner and Glimmer Lens, which each make a Rebel token. Anthem effects like Intangible Virtue and Phantom General turn the tokens into a real threat.
Key Cards
Playing the Deck
The early game is about mana, tokens and equipment. Sol Ring, Arcane Signet, Boros Signet, Talisman of Conviction, Mind Stone and Fellwar Stone power out the deck, Staff of the Storyteller creates a Spirit and draws a card when you make tokens, and Legion Warboss makes a Goblin every combat. Loyal Apprentice makes a Thopter if you control your commander.
The middle of the game is about making tokens every turn and growing them. Assemble the Legion, Court of Grace (which makes a Spirit or, if you are the monarch, a 4/4 Angel each upkeep), Emeria Angel and Siege-Gang Commander flood the board, while Prava of the Steel Legion gives your tokens +1/+4 during your turn and Roar of Resistance gives them haste and a pump. Idol of Oblivion draws a card if you created a token this turn.
The late game is about a huge alpha strike. Goldwardens' Gambit creates five Rebel tokens and can attach Equipment to them, Hexplate Wallbreaker gives you another combat phase, Jor Kadeen, the Prevailer gives creatures +3/+0 when you have three or more artifacts, and Silverwing Squadron grows with your board. Elspeth Tirel, Martial Coup, Hour of Reckoning and Chain Reaction reset the board when you need to.
Strengths & Weaknesses
Strengths: The deck produces an enormous number of bodies, and Neyali's double strike turns every attacking token into a serious threat. It also has a lot of ways to draw cards and fill its hand through Neyali, Staff of the Storyteller and Idol of Oblivion, and strong removal and protection in Path to Exile, Generous Gift, Rip Apart, Flawless Maneuver and Clever Concealment.
Weaknesses: The deck has only a handful of non-token creatures, so a board wipe from an opponent can leave it with very little, and it relies on its commander to give the tokens double strike. Some cards, such as Harmonious Archon, make all non-Archon creatures 3/3, which helps small tokens but also helps your opponents' creatures.
